RAF Man of Mystery

Post by FlyTexas »

Came across this photo today. Appears to be an RAF airman with some sort of instrument hanging around his neck. Can't really tell what the instrument is but I'd bet Mike would gladly add it to his collection of wartime doohickeys. ;)

Not sure about HALO Den but it sure looks like some sort of altitude test/evolution has taken or is about to take place *-)

According to the IWM:
METEOROLOGICAL FLIGHT FOR THE NAVY. MAY 1942, NAVAL AIR STATION, HATSTON. A FLEET AIR ARM FAIREY SWORDFISH BEING PREPARED FOR A "MET" FLIGHT/ The Air Gunner prepared for the flight with the barometer strapped to his chest. © IWM (A 8583)
Due to shortages and cutbacks the light at the end of the tunnel has been switched off.

I thought it looked like a barometer, but when I scrolled down to say that, the whole thing was over already. :(
Cheers, Mike.

It would still look smart in your collection, if you could find one. :)
