Flight Tests on Boeing 737 Max Start Next Week.

Post by Nigel H-J »

But even then further months of safety checks are to be made before it is even cleared to fly commercially. Fortunately MS2020 will be up in the air long before the 737 Max.

Don’t think there’ll be much in the way of new orders for Boeing or airbus in the current climate with a glut of low hours, modern aircraft being stocked up after Covid.

Indeed Ben and another point is that there are likely to be some airlines wanting to get rid of some of their fleet to cut costs even further.

Yes indeed. But the airlines that have ordered them will want them as they are more efficient that what they are replacing. It will take a while for the modifications to be made to all of the existing aircraft that are already with airlines, and the new training requirements to be delivered to pilots. I think that the 737 Max’s days are numbered. As I don’t envisaged huge demand in the current climate, not withstanding public confidence in the type. The other point is that there will be a lot of pilots looking for work, so if some airlines are going to change type from 737 to A320, in some countries this might be easier than first thought. There are a lot of external factors that will weigh on this.

Well said, Ben. Here's a pic I took (horrible quality, I know) back when our people were flying the Max 8 around our system. Hopefully this will hold you over until you get a chance to fly on a real Max. 0:)

I was watching Flightradar24 on Saturday, and they posted a shot of the Max flying around Seattle. So they've already started.

Boeing started test flying a few weeks ago!

I think the press are getting confused between these Boeing test flights and the FAA test flights that start this week in order to start the recertification process.

Personally I think it will take quite a bit of effort to rebuild confidence in the MAx and to avoid it becoming a dead duck.

I’m hoping it gets canned and they do something modern with a 757 style aircraft which is infinitely better looking. But we all no my thoughts on all 737 🐖

in all honesty, even if the Max 737 was certified safe to fly I would not want to fly in it. Just don't trust Boeing now.

I could not agree more Ben and Nigel,

My confidence in the 737Max is now non-existant and will be quite happy to never set foot on one!

I do like the idea of an improved 757 version which I know has been quietly mooted for some time as an easier solution instead of the 797 which requires a full design and build and all that entails.
It is sad to see but I think Beoing are going to have a struggle on their hands, not just with the MAX but with confidence in them as a company after all that has happened over the past couple of years!
Cheers
