Once again, the Dutch get it sorted. Every major salvage job going, they are there.

I wonder now what will happen to the pilot and or the Captain? Will the pilot be blamed for the incident, or will blame land squarely on the Captain? And what about the shipping companies who were affected by delays caused by Evergreen? Will they demand reimbursement for their financial costs? :dunno: Interesting days ahead, me thinks.

I think that ultimate responsibility lies with the captain, with the pilot only ever in an advisory role. The one exception I recall was the Panama canal, where the pilot was in full charge. That might have changed when the canal was handed over to Panama, however.

I thought it was blown off course by the wind. Act of God?

The 40 kts crosswind exprienced would have put over 1 million pounds of pressure on the side of the ship so it is no wonder that the bow thrusters could not deal with it.

Does not help motoring at 13 kts either.
