While I wish them the best of luck, expecting this new startup that does not even have a factory or built a single aircraft to have this flying by the end of the decade pretty far fetched. And have not even flown there 1/3 scale demonstrator yet. You figure from announcement to first delivery it took airbus 17 years for the A380 and Boeing 8 years for the 787, I would expect this vapor aircraft to take longer.

One thing I did not understand from the BBC article, it said

Unlike Concorde, the company expects Overture to be profitable for airlines even if tickets are sold for the same price as a "regular business-class fare".

It was my understanding that for the manufacturer Concorde was a looser, building only 14 but for BA and Air France they actually made money on them, once they got the pricing right for the tickets that is.

It was a bit of a vanity project for the British & French government’s. Neither Aérospatiale nor what became British Aerospace could have done it without huge government sums. BA and Air France paid for aircraft, but nowhere near the costs to cover the program. Even at that, I don’t think it was until the early nineties that the airlines had offset their purchase costs and both governments just absorbed the development debt… which to be fair kept a fair few people in jobs at a challenging time.

Very glad the got it finished though; it was an awesome sight.
