Earthquake in Victoria

Post by nigelb »

I just heard on BBC World News that a magnitude 6 earthquake hit near Mansfield in Victoria. Apparently felt as far away as Sydney. Mike and everyone else down under I hope you are OK - let us know. Our thoughts are with you!

Good grief. :( You don't typically associate earthquakes with Australia. Thanks for the news update, Nigel. Hope you're safe Mike, and weren't doing any 3D printing when this quake struck. ;)

Thanks for your concern, peeps.
Apparently the highest rating since European arrival in Australia.
Some places seem to have felt it more than others.
A few older buildings have actual damage. I guess the media will put a fallen wall (in the inner suburbs) on the front page to make it look awful. There's been special coverage on the radio.
Didn't even notice it in our house, though others in our street Whatsapp group did.
Not even aftershocks, which followed over the ensuing hour.
Our Daughter's place 30Km away got a shake up.
In short, all good thanks ;)
Cheers, Mike.

Glad to hear you're all okay Mike, and no damage to your abode. I remember an earthquake when we lived there ( north of Adelaide ). My parents were almost thrown out of bed, while I slept through it!

Pleased to hear that you are OK Mike, I, along with any-one else here who has actually experienced an earthquake will only know how frightening it can be more so if it is the first time, think it is the noise that it creates more than anything, I still remember vividly of the loud rumbling like a train going through a tunnel very close to you!! :hide:

Obviously any damage can be repaired but it is risk to human life that goes through my mind so once again, pleased to hear that you are OK Mike!!

Regards
Nigel.
