JF Hawk update imminent

Post by Paul K »

Hot on the heels of the MSFS2024 Vulcan update comes a major one for the Hawk.

https://www.justflight.com/articles/haw ... -v2-update

Described as a 'Version 2' update, here's the change list:

MSFS 2024 compatibility added.
Four new liveries:
Red Arrows 2024
Saudi Hawks 2024
Midnight Hawks 2017
1 TWU, RAF Brawdy
Significantly reworked flight model.
EFB v3 added (including Navigraph enroute charts)
Fixed missing tail white navigation light emissive texture
Improved modelling of wing navigation lights
Improved external chase camera position
Changes to SET ENGINE 1 FUEL VALVE control assignment logic for improved hardware compatibility
Added support for RUDDER AXIS LEFT and RIGHT control assignments
Added hidden clickspot for syncing HSI heading bug to current heading (screw at top left of HSI)
Attitude indicator gyro e rection logic improved
Pilot visors are now raised whenever the canopy is raised
Fixed ‘Toggle AP master’ button on EFB
Fixed ILS radio selector clickspot logic
Altimeter 10,000ft drum logic improved
Fixed aileron and rudder trim

"Significantly reworked flight model" sounds..er..significant. Do any of the Hawk enthusiasts here have any thoughts on what the improvements might be ?

Hi Paul, I'm really looking forward to this. After the last update (about 18 months ago i think) it became very twitchy and the throttle response for me was either on or off so a lot of the enjoyment had gone. I'll be happy if the enjoyment comes back as its a beautiful model.

I'm looking forward to it too, though it has been a bit of a hangar queen of late. I tend to favour the Hunter for my jet jollies. I'll fly it more in FS24, no doubt.

Just a quick reminder for those thinking about buying the Hawk for MSFS20/24: it is currently 20% off, but that discount ends on Tuesday 18th February. I love the new version and recommend it.

Version 2 is a much improved on version 1. It's much more stable in flight and trim actually works. A downside though is it's not as sprightly as it ought to be. I know it's getting old (aren't we all) but roll rate appears to be reduced and it's not quite so keen to get off the ground. Suspect this is the result of a compromise to fix the flight model. CGAviator (YouTube and an ex Hawk pilot) likes it but agrees it's been slightly neutered.
