Introvert Club

Post by Airspeed »

I heard on the radio this morning about the popularity of silent book clubs, which come under the general heading of introvert clubs.
I am therefore starting one. Being introvert, I will not tell you anything about it. Memberships have closed, having reached the maximum number allowed under the constitution.
Cheers, Mike.

Hmmm. Interesting. I might start one but I certainly won't be so public about it.

Mike can you just clarify if it’s the book that’s silent or the club itself ? Also how many members didn’t you get ? *-)
Now at the age where I know I like girls but can't remember why!

I thought all books were silent, well apart from an occasional rustle as you turn the page!

In all seriousness, apparently, after a brief catch up with the others, they sit down and read to themselves. They bring whatever reading material they choose, and don't discuss. It's just giving them time to read, and having company is beneficial.

Funnily enough, my writer’s group is very similar. We get together every couple of weeks at the theatre, have a brief chat and a catch up at the start, then spend the next two hours in complete silence typing away at our laptops 😂 I actually find it really beneficial and enjoyable!

Mainly plays. More just for fun and small-scale amdram performances these days, but I had a few radio sketches and a sitcom pilot with the BBC about twenty years ago. Unfortunately my writing ‘career’ never really took off, just a case of not being in the right place at the right time. No regrets though, had a few of my plays performed locally over the years, which is very satisfying. Also, I like to think there’s plenty of time left, lots of writers found their success much later in life!
