Andy,
I'm not sure whether Scotland has the home sellers pack but, when you put your home onto the market next year an information pack has to be included.......as far as I can remember, a survey will be carried out but not by a qualified surveyor but one who has been trained up to assess properties. By all accounts he would not be in a position to report of structural problems etc of a property as a professional surveyor would.
Yes, it could be said that the info pack may assist would-be home buyers in choosing a property but.........this practise just means the seller has to fork out yet more money and also the buyer will still need to obtain a full report for their building society.

I used to be an optimist but with age I am now a grumpy old pessimist.

Thanks for the kind words guys!
I have been chatting with the new neighbours this weekend. I guess thats one thing you can't choose when you move house and we all pray that we don't move next door to some nut-case with chav kids!
Fortunately they seem pretty good and I did the neighbourly thing on Sunday by having a beer with the lad next door whilst chatting to him over the fence.
As for the local boozer, it seems fine, rather quiet and clicky. Time to make friends with the landlord!!
