Hi all,

being looking into the last few 1-11's flying and trying to compile an archive for future reference. I recall recently, possibly from Garry, that only a handful remain active. Possibly no more than 30 or so.

Twenty Six are airworthy but not all flying

In adition there are some stored that are potential airworthy but will almost certainly never fly again

Cheers for the link. I'll keep that link handy. Would be nice to visit Boscombe Down at some point to see the old girls buzzing around. I wonder how often they fly them? :think:

I bet Safestyle UK/Everest Glazing etc .. have done rather well down there over the years!

I don't know but I would have thought that the 500 at least will be around for a while.

But of course things can change. :think:

BTW Eddie check out the gallery there is even a rare pic of G-ASJB

Going back to the double glazing/noise issue...Anyone remeber the Everest advert with the Merchantman that flew over as the late Ted Moult reached up and shut the window to show how it kept the noise out. :huf:

If it were me I would see a silent Vanguard and quick open it :dance: .........about a thousand takes should do it :roll:

Wasnt sure if the Northrup one was still around - It was out at Nellis last year doing something with the Raptors ....and that stage three muffler doesnt ...you can still here that wonderful Spey crackle

That odd US one if it's the one I'm thinking off is still very much in use.

The virtually admitted early on they could never cure the cackle so the noise would be little effected.

I remember a day in Jersey mid eighties half the One-Elevens were HK half straight...not noticeable difference.

It did apparently reduce the noise footprint, so if your five miles away it's an improvement. But close by it's all the ear can take so the readings are lower but still above maximum ear threshold so not real change.

Yes, remember it well, albeit I was probably scoffing rusks and pooing green goo! I did get into aviation early though.
