It's all a state of mind, grasshopper......

Why spend thousands of dollars to look at computer generated trees and mountains and buildings? For that sort of money you can go out and see them for real. Climb them if you want. Do you really want a flight simulator so you can look at artificial scenery or to recreate simulated flying? For that, all you need is an aircraft, navaids and a runway. So slide the scenery to the left and the aircraft to the right. Fly 2D cockpits and stop looking out of the windows!

Put your money in your pocket and forget about searching for perfection. You won't find it - it will always be over the next hill or the next $700 graphics card.

Choose happiness - be content with less, young man

To be honest, with the spec quoted above, you should be able to achieve pretty reasonable performance in FS. A format and reinstall often helps but is annoying and time consuming. It sounds to me like you either have some sort of hardware bottleneck going on or something dodgy going on software wise.

Might be worth running a few utilities like Crap Cleaner and also the utility (whose name escapes me) that shows you and allows you to edit the list of programs and other rubbish that deems itself worthy to be run at startup.

If you do Ctrl + Alt + Del and theres a vast list of executables and dlls running theres probably a fair few things that neednt be there and maybe even some spyware/adware/viruses etc. Similarly check the startup folder on your programs menu and also check out how many icons are in your system tray. Often, lots of memory and CPU time is being dedicated to pointless processes.

One thing that often gets overlooked is that you can actually prioritise CPU time to specific programs using Task Manager. Be careful giving FS too much priority though, else it could take everything over and leave you stuffed if it crashes

Further to my above post, if all of that fails and you still want to get a good flying experience out of your PC, try hurling it out of the window of a high rise building.

Tried that once, and believe me it won't work. The aerodynamics on such a box is quite awful!
