Sound sets
I was just wondering whether there were any freeware sound sets for either a Gloster Javelin (RR Sapphire) or any set containing a blue note sound. I tried adding the strange whistling sound of the Javelin to an existing sound pack, but I was working with one recording, and I couldn't get a constant sound clip from it (as the Javelins were flying over).
Any help would be appriciated.

This topic was raised on Mike Stone's forum 12 to 18 months ago
when he released his Javelin model.
No one at that time could find any suitable sound sets, and I have seen nothing since.
So unless anyone knows of an alternative approximation, you are out of luck.
[so now someone will prove me wrong  ]

Well there is a HP Hastings with a modified sound set, to cater for the Sapphire test bed aircraft, but it doesn't sound nearly like how I'd like it to.
This is the sound I was looking for:

I tried modding existing sound sets, but I couldn't get a nice clean clip from that recording.

HI Tweek
I made the modified sound set for the Sapphire Hasting you refere to.
Like you I could find no real Sapphire engine sounds. In the end I used a freeware set - if memory serves that Rick Piper had linekes to for one of his aircraft. My view was it whistled, it fitted & it did the job.
But there is nothing like having the right sounds (or panel) for the job.

I can fly now with my fantastic new PC
Yes, I think it fits the Hastings a little better, as it does have the prop sounds with it, which blends in nicely. However for the Javelin by itself, it has it's own distinct sound, different even from how the Hastings should have sounded like if it only had the Sapphires running. Something to do with the tailpipes causing the strange howling you hear on that recording, I think.delticbob wrote:HI Tweek

It's just a shame the Javelin was only around at a time when there were very few people recording it in flight.

HAD I only known at the time - I would have sat in my treehouse with
LONG extension cord, a microphone and a 1950s reel to reel recorder.
Sorry I used to live with GAC as my back neighbor and that sound I am
very very familar with - as toby tried to tell you it had to do with the "pennib" tailpipe
Leif
BTW it sounded better when the Jav was inverted - thank you Dicky Martin wherrever you are

I've had a quick play and produced a wav for exterior cruise sound (Sapphire/Jav), let me know if I'm on the right track
