I’d read Wing Commander Dickie Martin’s obituary (see above) last week in the telegraph and was reminded of it by the release of a Javelin for Flightsim.
I thought some of you here might be interested to read what an incredible aviation career this man has had; from flying numerous types during the second world war in several theatres, to test flying aircraft for first Glosters and then A.V.Roe, before going on to combine a career flying for various airlines with flying vintage aircraft at airshows during his spare time.
Quite incredible stuff and fascinating to read.

Thank you Alex
My memories of Dickie Martin are all inverted
- He had a penchant for taking Javelins fresh from the Factory and passing inverted over the entire plant before delivering them to Moreton Valence for entry into RAF service (The runway at GAC was just long enough to get a Javelin airborne but once airborne they had to proceed to MV) - His inverted trick was to
"drop any loose nuts and bolts" back into the plant - FYI other Glosters pilots included Dizzie Addicot - of Swift and U2 fame later and the incredible Jurakowski - who performed the first vertical cartwheel in a Meteor 8 then went to Canada to work on the Arrow
Well I guess He and Jura and most likely my dad will be propping up a bar somewhere in Valhalla swapping stories and pints
