I watched (and helped a little) while 10000 little bits became a J3 again so I wouldn't be surprised Dave.
the one thing that does seem to get done over here - private enterprise seems to have a bottomless pocket.

Well... the "sat down" came across the field before the "hit the tree" part. :)

BTW, the story is indeed a failed engine. He was traveling home from Oshkosh last year and tried to set down with a tailwind in that field. Unfortunately, the aircraft doesn't have great brakes anyway and on a wet field, it was even worse. I haven't heard the status on re-restoration, but it's one of the only Stearman C-3Bs still in existence, much less airworthy.
