Thats a lovely Bike Dave. My brother bought his in 2006 (Identical to yours) just before he got married. It was in a little sun room at the back of the house, with the spotlights angled onto it. He swore it would never go in the garage.....

He got married on a saturday a few months later, and on the sunday he invited us all to the house for a few drinks. We arrived at his house late afternoon (he'd only arrived a few hours before) and the bike was gone... the new SWMBO first act as dragon was to evict the bike. At that moment he realised what everyone had said about marrage.

Yeh.. poverty.. the final frontier I'm still there to be honest. My dad decided to, in his words, spread a little sunshine now rather than wait until he'd popped his clogs giving my sister and I a nice few bob. I wouldn't have bought the Triumph had the Kwak not been feeling it's age and equally so, NOT without SWMBO suggesting it first (I've not lost the old magic) When you haven't had two halfpennies to rub together for so long, it was difficult to part with any of it hence a LOT of restraint being shown That said, I'm really pleased with the Daytona and love it to bits already. If I was going to buy anything, it had to be something I really liked and this ticked all my boxes including the price I was 'taken' by a stunning Suzuki Hayabusa.. only 6k on the clock and 'as new' condition but it was a grand more than the Daytona and nice as it was, I just couldn't bring myself to spend the extra. Anyway.. I've had Jap bikes for the last 35 years and felt the need for a change. The last 'Brit' I rode was a nearly new Norton 850 Commando 'Electric' many moons ago and I couldn't believe how cr@p it was compared to the GSX1100 Suzuki I had Since then, the British bike industry collapsed like so many others but rose like a Phoenix in Hinckley.. just in time for me to appreciate it

You'd be amazed what owning a bike does for you mentally, especially if you've ridden one for any length of time then let it go for the 'usual' reasons.. never gets used due to wife, new born sprog, dog e t c. Getting the ZX-9R 9 years ago after a layoff of, Ooo, 6 years was the best thing I ever did. I gather many 'born again' bikers end up going down the road (minus bike) so are not as good an insurance deal as one might imagine. I must have a good sense of preservation

We must be of a certain age Chris.. that or we're both hooked on TV ads. I mentioned the dealer had a good shop with plenty of Triumph clothing though I'd not seen a bra Off the top of my head came 'Triumph are the bra for the way you are' SWMBO remembered it but the other girl didn't. My excuse was that blokes remember that sort of thing

I've not ridden a new Triumph triple, they usually get praised as good bikes for the road while the Japs seem to be getting ever more track focused. I have ridden a 1970ish Trident and . . . . . the less said about that the better, even when compared to my Harris Bonnie.

Dave, it probably is that certain age! I don't know about you but all my attention was on what the old triumphs contained rather than the material itself. They were a work of art as well but I suspect your bike will retain its original shape an awful lot longer (here's sincerely hoping anyway).

Tks Jon Triumph dropped this particular model at the end of 06/early 07.. probably because it couldn't cut the mustard on the track with the Jap 4's. For whatever reason, they went smaller and the 2010 (or is it 09) Daytona 675 looks every bit the part alongside whatever Japan throws out. Not sure how it goes but it sure looks fast even standing still Odd the Speed Triple continues to get a bigger engine and go from strength to strength and this is basically an unfaired Daytona. I guess that as it doesn't have a fairing.. no 'Sport' tags apply and it compares more favourably with the Jap competition
