Sad as it was to see the Trident go, the 757 was indeed a worthy replacement.
A wakeup call for the 75' is that BA ordered 732's as a fill-gap for the Trident before the 757 turned out to be a 757 (another 7X7 I think).. THE replacement. It does sort'a put it into perspective Unlike the Scarebus.. the Boeings can be re-engineered to go on.. and on but there does become a time when you have to hang your hat up
I think it was the 7N7 (7X7=767?) stemming from the 727-300 later losing the T tail and eventually at the last minuet losing the 727 nose to one incorporating the 767 flight deck type, which then made it look like something all new
Bit of an fortunate happening as they discovered that one of many wing designed they drew up for the 767 was ideal for what was to become the 757 which actually came after the 767.but not by much
There was a similar design using the Trident in the mid sixties but of course that was never going to be built

Yes.. it was 'more' the T3 that it replaced and yes.. it was the 7N rather than the 7X. Current trends using 'X' dulled the brain a bit BA did order more 732's to fill the gap and most of us here think of the 732 as older than God's dog.. which of course, it is!
It will be sad to see them go.I remember a few years back,being in the car park at the Gyle shopping centre(close to EGPH) one friday evening in summer when looking to the south-east saw a BA 757 Shuttle on finals for RWY 30!heading straight towards me and passing overhead at onlt a few hundred feet.Very Impressive.I just had chance to grab the airband as it approached and received its landing clearance.What a view the pax must have had.EricT

According to airfleets.net, only three BA 757s are still active.
And I doubt they are retiring - as Garry said many have already re-invented themselves as DHL freighters.
But there will still be some 757s with BA tails - F-GPEJ and F-GPEK of Open Skies are still around and were previously G-BPEJ/K of BA. Maybe those final active BA 757s will end up in France?
