have you tried reinstalling ?
my photoshop 6.0 went shite nuts on me once I had to reinstall.
maybe it's not reading the file properly? :dunno:

I've been looking for hours and have yet to fine an exact answer to the message your getting.

It;s reading OK and it's something it's doing to them

It seems the illicit lock is used by people who send out layered documents they don't want or allow editing.

Up to now it's not happened in the new document I've created.
