I had the later version of Elite, 'Frontier' for my Amiga. I was never any good at it, but I played it for hours anyway! I think the magic was in the revolutionary (for the time) concept that you could do whatever you wanted, in whatever order you liked. Despite the graphics (or maybe because of), I remember feeling as if I really was exploring strange new worlds. I can't recall which planet it was, but I remember seeing the planetary rings from the point of view of looking up from the surface! Awesome! :lol:

By the way, moving on a little from Elite to those who may have enjoyed Freespace2 (1999). There is a fantastic update pack available and I have just bought the latest FreeSpace 2 Win7 version from GOG for $5:
