As you have found out, not strange at all. In fact even on operations in all the British designed and built
bombers of WWII there was only ever one pilot in the crew, the second person in the cockpit being the flight engineer or the navigator , or the wireless (radio) operator. This trait continued even as far as the Avro Vulcan which was designed and constructed to be able to be flown singlehandedly, although
by then 2 pilot crews had become the standard.
