Nope, didn't touch the payload at all. Just took off with an insane amount of fuel. I was more careful with the ascent this time, and knew I had a good chance about a third of the way into the flight. Once I was at cruising altitude I ran the sim on 16x speed, and used the thumbwheel to increase altitude at various points - never more than 300f/min - maxed out at FL 425 - I noticed no advantage above that in extending range.

It's very critical in the first half of the flight mind you, If you foul it up then, it's time to call on Tonks.... ;-)

No we stopped at Abijan in Africa due to some HUGE thunderstorms over ASI.....
