Oh Yes...that will be Ron Treadaway! I flew with him quite a lot on Vanguards before he moved to the Tridents :)

This makes Classic Civil Aircraft:5 Hawker Siddeley Trident by Max Kingsley-Jones incorrect then, which it has to be said is unusual. It states 'Quote' The world's first 'Auto Flare' touchdown on a commercial service was made by Trident 1C G-ARPR when it arrived at Heathrow from Paris - Le Bourget carrying 10 passengers on 10 June 1965, operating Bealine 343. At the controls were Capt Eric Poole (Flight Manager Development), Capt Tom Atkins (Trident Training Captain) and Capt M.Mitchell. Each passenger was presented with a certificate to commemorate the historic achievement. Commenting on the landing, Capt Poole said 'although I was completely confident, my pulse rate was probably a little faster than normal'.. 'unQuote'.

I'm guessing that Capt Treadaway's landing at Heathrow was a training flight and although the 'first' wasn't 'live' if you see what I mean.. a commercial flight ;) Certainly be nice to have him here :thumbsup:

Its quite likely that I misquoted what Cap. Treadaway said, It may well have been that he referred to an experimental flight in the lead up to the commercial operation of Autoland. I certainly would not want to dispute your info. Next time I see Cap. Treadaway I will discreetly question him some more on the subject. Interesting stuff and a landmark in aviation history.

As far as my problem with the Trident sound. I have at last managed to get it working and those engines are sure noisy! I think I must have installed and uninstalled at least 3 times and finally it worked. Not sure what was happening because I am doing the exact same procedure each time. Someone earlier said "maybe it's a Vista thing". Perhaps that is the answer.

You keep on at him and get whatever info you can mate. These chaps are legends in their own lifetimes and when they're gone.. a lot of history will go with them ;)

Yeh.. the Trident sounds are wild aren't they.. definitely one to be flown with your finger on the volume key :lol: I hope it's not a Vista issue. I'm running XP SP3 and I tried my 'drag'n'drop' install again today and while I hear the engines.. I'm not getting the voice callouts 8) It's about time I set about a proper install for the old girl ;)

Re that book btw.. if you come by a copy, grab it as it's scarcer than rocking horse droppings these days. I ended up getting mine from a bookshop in Uxbridge (silly me thought it was Middlesex.. it wasn't.. it was Uxbridge, Canada!) :-O A newer 'tome' has been published but it's been found to have a number of mistakes 8) Given the scarcity of Trident books though.. needs must I suppose ;)

Glad your sorted Bob. If you fancy even more detailed sounds I highly recommend the aeromusica set for the Tridents (and if you have them installed the BAC 1-11 and VC10)

I shall investigate the book. Now that I have the Trident working I intend to set about installing the VC10.

Hi Bob, yes the VC10 is a peach. No VC, but to be honest I prefer 2D panels for much of my flying. Also worth geting the 1-11's and the Comet, both of which have a comprehensive VC. The Comet is worth it for the detail of the red leather seats in the cockpit alone.
