Yes I think they're probably quite cheap and reliable compared to say an Embraer, not forgetting that they are also very popular with Swiss' customers (they often ask for the aircraft when booking!) and it four engines permit flight over tall mountains (with one engine u/s, it can hold a much higher altitude than most twinjets).

Sorry Toby, you'll need to reverse that statement, the RJ is more expensive and more unreliable than an Embraer, however

and Swiss need to win back customers, hence acquiring RJ's instead of Boeing 737 or Airbus 318/219/320

that'd be most of the time then

Have really good memories of Airtours when I went to Tenerife when I was just a wee nipper. Loved the Mc DD MD8something that we were on, it was a great plane.

So if and when the time comes that BA Connect will no longer operate the 146/RJ, what will they operate on the LCY-EDI route?

I would have thought a second hand RJ or 146 would still be cheaper to acquire than a new ERJ  ...and I had heard that (BA I think it was) werent so happy with their Embraers as they went u/s quite often? Given your occupation though, if you say thats not the case then perhaps I was misinformed!
