I would still buy it as it performs very well and you choose to edit the textures with your favourite paint prog which opens inside FSR

It's all down to what you're used to mate. If you don't wish to use all of it's attributes, then you don't have to buy the program as the demo will suffice (it does everything except allows you to save). Then.. like us 'normal' folk do.. you open your paint in your paint program.. fart around with it.. save it.. then have a looksee in FSR ;-)
Don't be put off by our rantings Paul. If you think it's useful enough to buy.. then why not

Not in the slightest, Dave, its all very useful stuff to read.

What has not been mentioned yet is that FS Repaint is an excellent ULR ( Ultimate Last Resort..
). F.i. a lot of models are mapped without seperate mapping for the top and bottom fuselage. Particularly at the nose section it can become very difficult, even seemingly impossible, to correctly match horizontal or diagonal lines or colored areas running from the fuselage sides over the top and/or bottom of fuselage.
Here is where FS Repaint really comes to the rescue because you can actually paint on the texture as it sits on the model !
True, it is only in a rather crude way, but you can fill in the pixels exactly where they need to go to make a perfect match without having to endlessy trial and error which usually ends up only half satisfactory or even less..
Once you have your perfect match you save the texture ( mind you, it is the original bitmap that's going to be saved so watch out :doho: ) open it in your fav paintprogram and just ever so gently smooth out the crude drawing you just made with FS Paint.
It'll save you a lot of time and aggrevation, believe me ! ( i couldn't get good results with texturing the nose section of Wozza's wonderful Mustang no matter what i tried. At the end of the day, as a last resort, i bought FS Repaint and was delighted to see i could just fill in the troubled areas smack dab on the model itself ! )
Although the little proggy has its quirks it is still one of the most handy FS payware thingies i ever bought.
Cheers,
Jan

Re: Anyone use Abacus' FS Repaint at all ?
Thanks Jan, and everyone else. The thing I would really love to do is bare metal textures, up to the same standard as painters like Yago. The Alphasim Halifax and Halton are two I could start off with, the Plane Design Lancastrian too. Anybody have any tips or advice specifically on bare metal paints ? Can they be done using FS Repaint ?

Hi Paul..
I don't think the Halifax/Halton was ever bare metal mate  I didn't repaint any of the VA aircraft bare metal for that very reason ;-)

Hi paul
Sounds like you would be much better using Photoshop, you would be using multi layers really for that sort of thing.
As mentioned FS repaint is useful as a checker and maybe as a quick fix but it is not a serious full blown graphics programme.

Here you go, Dave. Halifax C.VIII PP285 taken in May 1945. It remained with Handley Page for all its career, and was struck off in February 1948. The fact that it was never issued to a squadron probably explains the lack of a service paint job, and was a rarity no doubt. The photo was scanned from the back cover of that Warpaint book I have.

By the way, is Halton G-AHDU 'Falkirk' not bare metal ? She certainly looks it in the film of her being handed over to BOAC and the footage of her in the air. Or was it some pale grey paint job ?.
Garry, I think I might buy it if only to find out what its capabilities and limitations are. Tony Madge uses it full time, and his repaints are top notch. Jan uses it as a useful last resort. It seems there is enough enthusiasm to warrant buying it, though I will see what I can do with Photoshop first. Bare metal really is what's driving my interest in the subject...I'd also love to do one for the Aerosoft Beaver.

Hi Paul
You can check it out in the free demo
Tony is calling up FS repaint and using it to check progress........he is actually painting in Paint Shop Pro which is linked from within FS Repaint.
Painters use it to check but not for the actual painting.

Hi Paul..
Sri mate.. I'd not considered Mk8's out of civvie use. In the shot you've posted, it certainly looks bare metal but as that airframe was kept by HP.. it probably had a 'charmed' life
I'm lucky in that when doing (considering doing even) the Halton's.. I had at my disposal one of the Vanguard crew who remembers Falkirk very well as it was the first airframe he worked on as an apprentice engineer with BOAC in '47. From his memory, none of the BOAC Haltons were ever bare metal when in airline service ;-) I have a picture of him and No.1 line staff standing in front of Fleetwood at Bovingdon in '47 and she looks very much painted
