Hi Mate

is it FSX native ?.

GMAX or FSDS 3.51 ?.

I might be able to help but need master texture to use as spec template.
(plain white livery with no reg etc is best)

Does it use Bump maps too if it's FSX as there are faults in making Bump maps that mess up the spec texture look.

looks like you bump map is incorrectly formatted which maked the odd shade problem for me.

send me the bump maps and i will correct them to see if it's that?.

Rick

I'm using FSDS V3.5.1 and the tweek utilities by Nuñez. The tweek cfg looks like this

[model]
ShadowMapReady=1

[texture.0]
identifier=druine_1.dds
specular=druine_1spec.dds
scale=1
bump=druine_1bump.dds
fresnel=
FresnelSpecular=
FresnelEnvironment=
BlendEnvironmentByInverseDiffuseAlpha=1
environment_level_scale=0.7

Here is how it looks with bump, no spec map

I'll send you the maps

Cheers Henry

Hi Henry

my Hawk had identical problem and it was the bump map.

(i know it's stops when specular was removed) but bump was the problem.
something to do with the way they interact

open you bump map in photoshop

red channel copy to alpha channel first & name Alpha 1 (notice space!)

then make 100% sure that
Red channel is Black
Green channel is Grey
Blue channel is White

I found that my Bump maps as standard had the red channel as Grey same as the green channel.

if you using Crazybump thats why as it once worked fine for FSX but since Crazybump 8.5 beta it has messed up my bump maps :dunno:

but if i manually tweak the bumps in photoshop they work fine and strange specular shading dissapears.

Rick

Hi Henry

you should only use the ShadowMapReady=1 tag on the Interior cfg file Not the external model's cfg

might be that causing the problem ???

Hi Dave B

I just spent best part of 2 weeks trying to fix the problem myself as i suddenly got it with the Hawk.

eventually traced it to the Bump map format (not really connected) but definately the cause.

thats why it took me so long to work out as it was cause rather than me looking at the effect :dunno:

But got there in the end.
Ah the joys of being among the first to make full FSX SP2 native models with Flightsim Design Shop :cpu: :brick: :doho: HELP

:fart:
