Hi guys
as a poor, almost destitute pensioner I am unable to afford the Kings' ransom that is required to purchase the Cpt Sim Hercules RAF textured models for FSX.
I therefore bought the FS9 version, and indeed FS9 in the January sales - purely to enable me to fly it  - which still cost less than the 'X' version would have.
I recently had the brainwave to try and get the FS9 Herc to work in FSX. Just Flight (who I bought it from) said it couldn't be done - but I like to tinker and gave it a go.
Basically, everything works fine in FSX SP2, with the exception of the gauges.
I have all the relevant gauges copied into FSX and they display in the VC and 2D panels very nicely - but they don't actually work.
I'd be grateful for any info on how I could actually enable them within FSX - there must be some file(s) I've overlooked somewhere.
Any help greatly appreciated. :prayer:
PS - apologies if this is the wrong forum for this.

I don't think it's possible to get them working in FSX. There's some internal code which prevents them from working.

I've read a lot here and there about getting FS.9 to run in FSX
There have been various patches amd upgrades have sorted others
However with guages it seems to be a brick wall..they either work or they don't
As Dave says it seems unfixable for the reason given.
At the end of the day they are two seperate Sims so you can go only so far ;-)

Okay, thanx.
Well I'm reasonably happy - it's an excellent model in FS9 and it is perfect except for those zero-reading gauges in FSX - so I got a good deal in any case.
I'll still fly it in FSX.

If I remember correctly, most, if not all of the panel is one gauge, so substituting new ones is not an option. You could however try overlaying some new gauges on top of the non working ones.

Dave,
Yes Captain Sim standard practice is to make each window one large gauge. I run 6 screens off 2 matrox TH2Gos and edit my panels for multi-monitor - unfortunately that doesn't work with Captain Sim products, so I don't buy them. However I did get a complementary copy of the Herc a couple of years back so I can confirm it is possible to run other gauges with the aircraft, for example you can use Reality XP Jetline to simulate an updated glass cockpit.
Cheers

Well that probably exceeds my current tinkering skills, Dave.
As for replacing the gauges with a glass cockpit - that'd be sacrilege!

Gimme a set of dials anytime

JD,
Our Herc is a clockwork machine, but some of the Safair and Lynden aircraft have glass upgrades and very smart they look too. Sometimes progress isn't a bad thing - I'm off to dive for cover making a statement like that on this site
