Armed Forces Memorial

Post by Filonian »

On a rather more serious note compared to my normal posts.

Public urged to vote for the Armed Forces Memorial

Following a huge response from the British public, The Armed Forces Memorial has reached the finals of the National Lottery Good Causes Awards it was revealed today, Monday 21 July 2008.

The Armed Forces Memorial, which forms part of the National Memorial Arboretum near Lichfield, has now entered the final stage for a prestigious award that recognises the nation's favourite Lottery-funded projects.

The Memorial, which received £2.4m of Lottery money, commemorates more than 16,000 service men and women who have been killed on duty or as a result of terrorism since the end of the Second World War.

And now support is once again being sought from the thousands of people who previously voted, and from everyone else who would like to see the Memorial scoop the highest accolade.
Votes can be registered between 21 July and 8 August 2008 at http://www.lotterygoodcauses.org.uk/awards by clicking through to the Best Heritage Project category and selecting Armed Forces Memorial, then "read more" to get to the voting tab, or by phoning 0845 386 4459.

The Memorial is competing against two other finalists in the Best Heritage Project category. The winner will be announced during a special Saturday night BBC One Lottery show in late August 2008.
