You know.. I'm not sure we don't have a Viking at Brooklands in the Wellington hangar though a quick look at the Brooklands site shows 4 exibits in the aviation pull-down menu.. the Wellington.. the P1127 test Harrier.. the old ticket office and a-n-other I can't remember. Of course.. we also have a VC1 too which is currently outside near the front of DG and I couldn't find a mention of that either  For sure.. if what's in the Wellington hangar IS the seaplane Viking, it's a fine looking bit of kit with a lovely carvel built wooden hull. Looks like an old speedboat with wings!

Not their only instance or reusing a name

There was a Viking replica made that could taxy. This was originally at Thorpe Park when they had a collection

No off hand what happened to it

Here is another example of name reuse

I'm pretty sure that the one at Brooklands that DaveB mentioned is in fact the old Thorpe Park replica. I think it was also used in at least one film?

Kind regards

John

Ps Anyone know what happened to the Supermarine S5(6?) replica from Thorpe Park... am I right in thinking that it tragically crashed?

The Viking is up at The Pond (A good place for an Amphibian Im thinking)

I went trawling as well, Ted always seems to find little hidden jewels to offer, It seems that it had some success
in Canada both militarily and civil :0

So I took it to the Laurentians and ...........

its a hoot to fly if you have ALOT of time

I'm sure there is a Viking at Brooklands Dave. Looking rather forlorn without its wings. It's parked by the Concorde.

Dennis.

Hi Dennis :)

Yep.. that particular Viking is the VC1 rescued from a life as a restuarant. It used to live in the Wellington hangar (on the left as you go in) until the last open day when the Roe was shown to the public for the first time. I'm not happy about it being outside without it's wings :-( The other Viking (flying boat) is (I think) on the RH side and was opposite the VC1. I'm sure I have a phot of it somewhere but can I find it.. err.. nope

EDIT..
Nice link Garry. It doesn't appear to have been updated for yonks as all the shots are out of date but at least it confirms the presence of the 'other' Viking ;-)
