FSX uninstall

How do I get a complete uninstall when I uninstall FSX. I installed it on my regular hard drive but didn't much care for it so I installed SP1. It was working much better, but when I installed SP2, everything went south. I finally uninstalled it and re-installed it but there were files left behind evidently, because when I re-installed FSX and SP1 it wasn't working as good as before and it had remembered my settings. I bought an external hard drive and I want to install it over there, but I don't want anything left over on the internal hard drive.

You may hit problems using an external drive if it is a USB one due to data transfer rates, a firewire one may be OK but I am not sure on that. I would be tempted to do some research on FSX and external drives if I were you.

Hi Dutch,

The files that get left behind are the user ones in your user profile, and are easy to delete, but it will depend on which OS you are using as to where these will be.

Its worth pointing out that AFTER the service packs, it is very strongly recomended that you rebuild the [edit]fsx.cfg. To do this find the [edit]fsx.cfg file abd rename it to fsx.old. Then start the sim. It will build a new one with default settings. You then need to re adjust the sliders etc to the way you like them. After that, a full defrag of the drive containing FSX.

Have to agree Tako... external drives (i.e. USB2 or Firewire) aren't really designed for running an app as IO intense as FS. The only exception would be if you had an eSATA connection, as this should give the same performance as internal SATA disks.

Thanks for all the help guys. Would a 1.5 G eSATA connection be good enough or would 3.0 G be required?

....and it looks like SATA 6 Gbit/s drives may soon be available. Bear in mind that cable length is also a factor that affects some formats. It takes time to push all those electrons down the cable. ;-)
