Sometimes the younger generation surprises me pleasently

I received a PM this morning from one of the better young talents in the hobby

In my 55 years I have learned somethings - One is that it takes a lot a intestinal fortitude to admit ones
mistakes -- So I would like to say thank you to the young man in question, It is one thing to be talented
in what you do (Which he is , very talented) but it takes alot more to say you were wrong about something

For those who wondered what the missing post in the gallery was that I deleted in anger

here is the screenshot - it was a very simple memorial to one of the many many talented men and women in the British
aircraft industry in the 50s and 60s they designed and built some wonderful aircraft and had many dreams dashed by
an ignorant and short sighted goverment. I should explain, every year on the anniversary of my fathers death , I fly one of the many aircraft he had a hand in designing -- The Gloster Javelin was one of those and he worked specifically on the
FAW7 and 9. The screenshot says it all for me -- I could have put many shots in the Gallery --but to me this is the epitome
of the man (my father) and the aircraft. By the way - Its titled "going home"

Well done, both. Erick for the apology and Leif in the generous way you've accepted it and handed the credit to Erick. I don't know what it was about but what a great way to turn an unpleasant situation into a win-win. If only politicians could be so forgiving and magnanimous, wouldn't life be so much more pleasant?

A great tribute to your Dad, Leif. You are obviously as proud of him as I am of mine and we'll pass that love onto the next generation. When I spoke his eulogy at his funeral I said, "You were, and will always remain, my hero." And I still cry now when I think of him.

Here's to Dads, and to people doing the right thing by each other. Your story has brightened my day.

Actually most of his ashes are along the Cotswolds above Glosters old factory, we had a bang up wake for him at the
"Air Ballon" at the top of Crickley Hill in 1999 - I say "most" as I had the pleasure of taking a small container of his
ashes to Loch Erne that same year and spreading them on the water - (He served in the RAF at Castle Archedale on
PBYs - and loved that part of Ireland) If any one is interested and passes the "Air Ballon" there is a large Oak tree just along the brow from the pub with a little plaque under it - dedicated to an old boy who loved designing aircraft and loved walking the
Cotswolds seeking archeological sites -- (That's why he had an MA from London - Archeology)

I was at the Air balloon only last Wednesday - it is our invariable stopping point on the way to Portsmouth or Plymouth for our old car jollies in France or Spain, and is still as good as ever

For a good pint of Stowford Press cider I strongly recommend the Golden Heart in Nettleton (bottom of the dip between the Air Balloon and A417). Been smashed there on many a summer afternoon! CHEERS

Last time I was there - I visted the "Highwayman" up on the top road at Cranham -- Do they still have the Ox roast there???
