Canadair Argonaut / North Star Ver 2.1

I have just uploaded a new version 2.1 of my Canadair Argonaut & North Star model(s) to Avsim and flightsim.

The changes are not big, but the flight model is improved like my DC-4 was 6 months ago, that means easier taxi and a shorter takeoff run. The extra texture files that makes it look right in FSX Gold and SP2 are included (but no support for DirecX 10 this time around, sorry). There are a few other improvements and bug fixes.

Look forward to that Jens.I wonder how many people remember the tragic accident in 1967 whem a British Midland Argonaut crashed in Stockport during an approach to Manchester.I seem to recall that the problem was put down to fuel starvation caused by some sort of malfunction of crossfeeds.Some time later there was an excellent televised documentary recreating the situation,filmed on board another Argonaut,during which both starboard(I think) engines shutdown in flight.Quite dramatic as I recall.ATB EricT

Jens, thanks for another fantastic aeroplane!

I do have a question on the boost pumps (switches on upper panel with lighting, de-ice, etc). When were they used and what exactly do they do? Honest, I have read the docs and checklist and other than a small mention I can't find the answer. Of course I may have been having a "senior moment" and missed it. ;-)

Hi,

I don't have specific information on the Argonaut, but in most piston propliners the boost pump switches were turned on during engine start and takeoff. They were also sometimes turned on in certain aircraft during the climb, at high altitudes (i.e. in high blower), above certain throttle settings, and on final approach (in case of a go around). Typically, anytime it was expected that you would experiencing a high fuel flow condition.

Engine fuel pump failure would be another case.
