calling experts re upgrade help...
Ok I am leaving AMD ..sob.. I have read so much about the Intel CPU's I am really thinking of going for one.
Now on eBay I seen this set up
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 0260032924
Motherboard, 4gb Ram and E8500 cpu ( I dont need 4 cores honest...)
The mo board is very good at clocking so I did not see the advantage of going for the e8600 which was about £420 the e8500 is £350 if I order before 4th Dec I get 15% off using Paypal so it makes it even more attractive.
I would keep exisitng hardware ie DVD, DVD Writer, 3 X Hard Drives and my Zotac 8600GTS 512mb DDR3 RAM.
So is it worth the gamble??
Over to you guys now

Buying computer parts on ebay and paying with paypal is generally never ever worth the gamble. ;-)

Bad experiences (both personally and some of my clients) with paypal. I won't go into the subject any further but I wouldn't touch them with a ten foot barge pole any more due to the "transient" nature of money and goods paid for using paypal, and their bizarre disputes system.
Sometimes it's worth paying the extra money for the knowledge that you're buying from a large, legitimate business with excellent customer support.

Yup..
I know one scam off Ebay (I was indirectly caught as part of the order was mine) but that's it. Never any problems personally with either Ebay or Paypal. Each to their own though ;-)

Tony you will be daft not to get a quad core.(no comment! )
FSX is much smoother on a quad on every PC i have built.
it's worth the extra, I guarantee it mate.

Hi Rick
reading about this motherboard it gives rave reviews for overclocking dual core but not so great on quad, I rarely use FSX so multi core stuff is not really an issue but two cores would help when I have a couple of things going on at the same time, It seems that single core cpus are not available much and my 3700 Athlon is not going to be beaten by great amounts by a 4000 Athlon.. hence the look at dual core. But I havea big problem...convincing the vife I need to upgrade, as the pc books holidays and shops at Next perfectly well in her eyes

Hi Tony
Ok mate
But i hereby reserve the right to say "I told you So" as many times as possible when you have a future framerate problem
if you buy the older E or Q6600 Core2Duo or Quad they overclock fine right up to 3.4 ghz and higher if you have a decent board that has good Mossfetts.
It appears that Intel have started to throttle the later chips to make sure they are less clockable as it's losing them sales.
