Full Throttle with the Blue Angels...
This is interesting but perhaps a little unwise
Ride in an F/A 18 Hornet
Make sure and click on all 5 excerpts. What a Ride!!!
Make sure your sound is on.
You may have to click on each photo at the left to watch the scene. (The first one should open on it's own, it did for me.)

Personally, I think it is rather dangerous to subject a passenger to such high G loads.

Re: Full Throttle with the Blue Angels...
Interestingly the Blue Angels fly without g-suits as it'd interfere with their right hand doing close formation work. Plus they then have the artificial feel set up to give a constant forward force on the stick. I'm guessing they work out more than I do.

Re: Full Throttle with the Blue Angels...
Interesting. What 'benefit' or purpose is there in having to exert Hulk-like forces to the stick? My only thoughts are that a 'twitchy' aircraft is more 'dangerous' to fly in formations???????? Do the Red Arrows have any mods to the controls, or can they actually control the aircraft?????SkippyBing wrote:Interestingly the Blue Angels fly without g-suits as it'd interfere with their right hand doing close formation work. Jim, I'd assume having the constant force removes the null zone on the control column where nothing happens, which'd be a bit worrying in close formation. As the Hornet is fly-by-wire it may not have enough feedback in it's standard state for what the Blue Angels are doing, in the Hawk on the other hand the controls are directly connected to the flying surfaces so it's not a problem.

Re: Full Throttle with the Blue Angels...
Regarding the "artificial feel" providing some kind of forward force isn't it just that they set the trim so it requires a constant small amount of forward force from the pilot to maintain straight and level flight?SkippyBing wrote:Interestingly the Blue Angels fly without g-suits as it'd interfere with their right hand doing close formation work.
