Italy ship ?? Its Italian ship, not Italy ship! If you can get it right at the start of the article, why not the headline ?
And it is not 'his Melody ship' either...it is 'his ship, the Melody' .
What the bloody hell has happened to the BBC ??

Re: BBC Crap Watch No. 2
Friends recently were given a conducted tour of the BBC. Their astonished reaction was 'disgraceful, full of lazy, ill educated and overpaid people very keen to appeal to 'the common man' and bent on dumbing down absolutely everything.'
Lord Reith always maintained that the BBC, as the UK public broadcasting company, did set the standard and was to portray the UK at its very best. On the other hand he was misguided in making the radio newsreaders wear dinner suits to read the news! On the whole he did maintain very high production and programme content standards by which all other radio companies in the world came to be judged - quite simply the UK led the field at that time, but perhaps not now.
The operational standards of the BBC today are fast approaching a 'not fit for purpose' state.
What we really need , because there is so little real talent about is either to reduce the transmitting time of all terrestrial channels or to go back to BBC1 + ITV only not operating 24/7.
Does Iceland still prohibit any TV on Thursdays?

It's the same thing with football teams. The Italy team, France team, Germany team, etc, etc, etc.
As far as the BBC are concerned, I get really annoyed when contestants on The Weakest Link say, "she/he got some questions wrong" WRONG! They got the answers wrong, not the ruddy questions.
While I'm having a rant, another phrase that annoys me is, we will try "and" do it. Surely it is try "to" do it.
I could go on and on, but ......
Dennis.

What makes me laugh is the final on The Weakest Link, when, having got 1 question out of 10 right between them, the losing player congratulates the winner as being the better player. Hah! Better??? Two short planks comes to mind....

"Speed building both sides.....passing one hundred knots.....V1..rotate...oh sh*t..."
Re: BBC Crap Watch No. 2
I have to confess I watch World News on BBC America every night. Mat Frei and Katy Kay do a great job (and Katy is easy on the eyes). Far better than American network news, where if they devote more than a couple of minutes to a story it is unusual. Soundbites are about it.
My daughter was a journalism major at university and out of curiosity she asked one of her professors who he thought had the best news gathering organization. Of course she was expecting him to say CNN or NBC or some other US network. His reply - "Without any doubt, it's the BBC. They are mile ahead of everyone else."
Now there are some entertainment shows on BBC America that are really below the standards I grew up expecting from the BBC, but then they also have some absolutly fantastic shows with far better acting than you see on US shows. Ashes to Ashes, season 1 just finished here last night (I know season 2 has already started in the UK) an I really enjoyed that, along with Dr Who, Top Gear and so many more. Come to think of it, I watch mostly BBC stuff. Guess I will always have a soft spot for Auntie!

Well, the emails of spluttering indignation have paid off. The headline is now 'Italian cruise ship foils pirates' and 'his Melody ship' has been changed to 'his ship, the Melody'.
I think I might have too much time on my hands.

They described a Tucano as a 'Jet' before changing it to 'Plane' in a recent article about the chap who had the stroke in the Cessna.
TBH, there's quite a lot of dodgy grammar and incorrect data popping up on the beeb website. It may be more to do with the fact the people 'webbing' the info aren't actually seasoned journos?
At least some of it does get changed.
