1-11 Urgent Record Request

Post by WhisperJet »

From the news section of http://www.bac1-11jet.co.uk/

14 Jul 2009

553 is due into Bournemouth today at 1655 as MJN565.No outbound flightplan has been filed today so it will be nightstopping before positioning to Fairford tomorrow probably. I'll once again ask anyone who can make it to please record this "significant moment" in the 1-11s history which could be the last time we ever see an active 1-11 on the ground at Hurn. Any digital images or movie footage would be much appreciated. Only time will tell whether or not we can bring this 1-11 home for preservation!

Best wishes,

Nick

This is the sole remaining Omani 1-11. It is the "newest" of the 3 that they operated (delivered in November 1975) and will be retired in December when their next A320 is delivered. It was the only aircraft delivered from Hurn with a cargo door on it, however the first two (551 & 552) were returned to Hurn and modified similarly afterwards. The three Omani 1-11s racked up nearly 75,000 hours combined in their service lives and have been seen throughout the Middle East and Europe flying for the government and its military.

There was a nice article in the July/August 2009 edition of "Skyliner" on the aircraft as one of the contributors was able to spend a day flying on the aircraft, a rare occurance as the Oman government is very strict about security measures and typically does not allow photos from inside any of their aircraft.

For anyone who doesn't know (although it is mentioned in the OP!), she will be at RIAT for the week, so that may very well be the last time we get to see an Omani BAC 1-11. She'll be on static all weekend, but for anyone who isn't a fan of aircraft just sitting there doing nothing, it may well be worth going to one of the arrivals days (Weds by the sound of it) or the departures day on Monday (which is exactly what I plan on doing).
