you shut up... no you shut up ... no you shut up ,.. no you
Re: Overshot Destination....???
I find that incredible!!
Could they have just used a heated discussion as an excuse rather than admitting that they were probably asleep? Only guessing of course but how can a heated discussion go on for that length of time and not hear ATC unless it became a shouting match.
Equally if the report of the CVR breing erased after landing being suspicious I always thought that this was the normal shut down and tidying up of the flight deck procedure
Would I also be right in saying that it will only erase when the parking brake is applied?
Nonethless, hope someone here keeps us updated.
Regards
Nigel.

Not sure WHAT goes on in the UK these days - But CVR tape is a thirty minute loop and on the Bus its digital anyway- it can ONLY be erased by pushing the erase/test function and if memory serves its tied into the squat switch along with alot of others things -- FARs say it stays untouched not "cleaned up" until its overwritten again. this is why the flight number date and in many cases pilots ID numbers are loaded in to the MCDU at the begining of a flight. In this case the CVR was erased after landing there is NOTHING on it what so ever. Also even if they had been in a "heated discussion" it would have been difficult to miss the multiple SELCAL and ACARs alerts that were sent, plus Minneapolis Center screaming at them - apparently they became with about five minutes of having four F16s sent to wake them up. This with 24 hours of a Delta (NWA and Delta are one and the same remember) 767 landing on a taxiway instead of a runway.....oh dear the legacies are screwing up by the numbers

Re: Overshot Destination....???
It is rather curious that this is the second similar incident this week. Earlier ,an A 320 flew across Belgium and the Netherlands out of radio contact, and a/c were scrambled. It is being attributed to a transmitter fault where after a transmission the radio goes to sleep and stays in transmit mode ( although not actually transmitting) thus blocking all incoming transmissions

Re: Overshot Destination....???
Under normal circumstances I would give the crew the benefit of the doubt had they answered the SELCAL(which is usually on the #3 VHF box) or the ACARS sent by NWA/DL dispatch in MSP (on the satlink) or by the FA's calling on the interphone. (all of these have been reported on this flight) At our airline we travel the same airspace frequently and admittedly there are times when there is a breakdown in communication between center and the aircraft either of the first two methods gets the pilots attention in short order. (because we are not ACARS equipped company policy is to fly with SELCAL tuned to the ARINC area frequency) However FMS's are interesting things - once programmed with a flight plan (especially of Bus's and NG's) the top of decent is flagged on the PND, and if one flies through that waypoint the FMGC tends to let you know in short order. so --- from SAN-MSP that point would have been around Grand Isle Nebraska they DIDNT "just fly 150 miles past MSP they flew at cruise altitude for more than an hour than they should have - given on the day in question the jetstream was very light they cant blame that - so what were they doing for 75 minutes? Playing Farkle?
