What the general problem with McD Paul ??

Where I live there are no McD, Burger King Wimpy or KFC and we have the same health and obesity problems as elswhere without the opportunity to go to such a places if we wish

We've got plenty of MacDonalds up here but not of the burger/fast food sort No fast food outlets of any kind in fact anywhere you go to eat out is most definitely SLOW!!! Notwithstanding the lack of fast food there are plenty of, shall we say, persons of identifiable size walking the streets. And more than our fair share of alcoholics

Its not so much what they sell as how they do business, Garry. Take this, for example...

In 1996, McDonald's forced Scottish sandwich shop owner Mary Blair of Fenny Stratford, Buckinghamshire to drop McMunchies as her trading name. Mrs. Blair did not sell burgers or chips. She said she chose the name because she liked the word munchies and wanted the cafe to have a Scottish feel. The cafe's sign reflected this, featuring a Scottish thistle and a St Andrew's flag. But in a statement to Mrs. Blair's solicitors, McDonald's said if someone used the Mc prefix, even unintentionally, they were using something that does not belong to them.

There's a McDonalds on the junction of the A505 and A1301 and inside, one wall is taken up by a huge RAF roundel. Of course, just along the road in Duxford, so hey... lets jump on the bandwagon, hijack the symbol of the RAF and make more money selling shite. I swear, if there was a knock on my door one dark night, and it was an arsonist who'd just burnt the place down and needed somewhere to hide, I'd offer him the space under my mattress.

It's not even if there is any real threat and the public aren't fooled and don't care

Sad thing though as with the Iceland thing is who suffers.... and it is jobs lost for some who won't be able to find new ones

As to lower profits, they can continue in buisiness as long as they are making a profit, these are not boom times. but companies seem to use a reduction in profits as an excuse to make cuts that could be bourne out

Who's to say, Garry ? I don't think many have ended up on the street from losing a job there. Left wondering where the next X-Box game or tattoo is coming from, possibly...but thats about it, I reckon.

Paul, the MacLeod clan certainly have a massive presence up here. There are literally dozens of Iain MacLeod's for example. I guess it's why so many nicknames exist. There are plenty of Morrisons, MacKenzies and Smiths. The local phone directory is a bit of a laugh, 90% of all names are in the "M" section

Funny that you mention the McDonald business "ethics". Up here it's almost the reverse. The local mafia won't let anyone open up an international fast food outlet. I guess that the church has more power than even Ronald McDonald
