Just a bit more news on this - Apparently he did have a commercial licence years ago for small aircraft.

The strange thing is that he was able to keep up the charade for so many years. He must have passed a lot of checkrides along the way, which means he was doing something right at least.
At least he didn't say "I learned it all from Microsoft"
Due to shortages and cutbacks the light at the end of the tunnel has been switched off.
