Flightsim and Computer bits giveaway

Post by TobyV »

I may be moving (a fair old distance) in couple of months, accordingly, I'm having a clear out and I have some 'vintaeg' flightsim / computer game software and some hardware to dispose of. I hate waste and adding to landfill, so if any of the following is of interest to you, please post below. First come first served. I'm not asking anything for any of this stuff, only that you collect it from addresses in Warwickshire or W.Sussex or pay for P&P to your address (in which case, cheques drawn in Pounds Sterling are acceptable)!

Assuming, I'm within forum rules here, I would appreciate it if a mod could sticky this until either everythings gone, or enough people have told me its a load of old err..hem, and none of you want it

1) Electronic Arts Jane's F-15 flight simulator (1998) - Mint in Box - CD-ROM, 3/4" thick manual :worried: Runs on a 200MHz processor or better with 32MB, graphics are ok, physics are **very** realistic. Is not really a "fun" sim, but if you want something detailled and realistic and have an old machine, preferably with a 3Dfx card (or something that supports 'Glide' I hink it was called), this may be for you.

2) Original copy of Microsoft FS98 in box with manual.

2) Original copy of Microsoft CFS1 in box with manual.

3) Aircraft Factory 99 - useful for making aircraft for the above or at a pinch, for FS2K. Also opens old BAO flightshop model files. This might also be useful for someone wanting to create low detail static models for later flightsims, as somehow (using M98_to_BGL or something like that), you can convert compiled models to static objects.

4) Need for Speed III (1998) - CD-ROM etc in box. Recommended computer specs as above for Jane's F-15.

5) Well used (but functional) wireless keyboard and optical mouse. 2x PS/2 connectors. Requires 4 AA batteries. Some paint missing and possible some little fiddly plastic bits on the keyboard (not the keys obviously). Neat feature that the receiver charges the batteries using the computer.

6) PC Microphone - stem needs glueing back together but should work fine

7) 256MB PC2100 DDR DIMM - untested

**GONE**8) Creative MX Webcam, USB, works fine, but with drivers for Win XP only, not with Vista because there are no drivers, damn M$

9) NEC branded IOMEGA ZIP-100 drive, fits in 3.5" bay and uses IDE cable. Working as far as I know.

10) Intel internal (PCI) 56k modem - could be useful?

11) Compaq branded Logitech 2-button "Pilot" mouse, PS/2 connector

12) Logitech 2-button "Pilot" mouse, serial connector

13) Samtron 4Bi, 14" SVGA CRT monitor

HI Toby

Hopefully the usefull things will not go to waste , I'm moving now myself in fact , and being a fix almost anything type I had all sorts of
bits and pieces that I gathered over the years. But, I have realised that most of it is just for the what if or it waits to be used for some project.
what I can recycle will go there, a few things I gave to people I know , a number of things to Goodwill ( helps the poor )

I made a rule this move , if I held it in hand for more than 5 seconds contemplating it's value..... it went in the SHIP IT ! pile

very freeing actually.

all the best in your endeavor.

Yeah its a shame there aren't more charities over here that take electronics and computer parts. I feel sure some of this stuff would be useful in developing countries or for people who cant afford the latest and greatest.

On the other hand, there are people who collect old computers now :cpu: , and so a USB mouse might not be so useful to them as a serial one!

When we moved here 3 years ago I brought a ton of surplus kit - mainly old PCs from my business. After a dig round locally I came across www.sort-it.org.uk which lists the organisations in Scotland that take in old computers and bits.

My local collection point Is in Duns where the Berwickshire Furniture Restoration company live. They - as the name suggests - take in furniture and household goods which are refurbished and then sold on to those on lw incomes in the Borders area. They also take in computers and components and have proved a godsend to me by taking in all my obsolete kit, doing it up/reparing it and passing it on to someone who can use it. I now take a bag of goodies to them about once a year as I slowly upgrade my machines.

Have a look at the above site - you may get an idea what is operating in your area of the country.
