It looks like one of those "disposable fighters" that were considered in relation to the B of B.
I think there is also a Miles design, built to the same requirement, to be found at t'Pond.
It was Supermarine's submission to the F7/30 requirement which gave the RAF the Gladiator. Mitchell tried to take the lessons learnt from the Schneider Trophy racers and apply them to a modern fighter, but the result was an unmitigated failure - thankfully he took on board the lessons learnt and proceeded to refine his ideas with the results we all know so well.
