NEW models please

Having read of the iFly 737NG and the Comet being developped by JustFlight I ask myself why the big software companies are creating models without filling the gaps in the FS world. Where's the sense in that?? We don't need another 737NG and we definitely don't need a payware Comet!!!

When it comes to new models, with an interesting system depth, a flyable VC and all of today's trimmings here's seven models we really need:

- a decent BAe 146 or Avro
- a well done 737-200
- a fine DHC-7
- maybe a dornier do328
- both saab 340 and 2000
- a good DC-8

I'm sure they could make much more profit our of any of these types...
Maybe they should scroll down the menu of airliners.net once - instead of just staring out of the window at airports like Stansted...

Difficult for us to say as we are a freeware support site

I would love top of the range models but I don't support payware

So I could never 'demand' an addition to the payware hangar.

And only one of those you list is British

Well, Garry I'd sign that. It's quite significant that the aircraft I fly the very most (1-11 and 748) are freeware.
And nevertheless superb, even better than most payware stuff I know.

But I'd also spend some money on a model if it's an interesting type and properly done. I did so with the SkySim DC-9er lately. What I meant is: especially payware developpers should take a look at the market and see what's on the list already.

Avro Ashton, flew a year before the Comet. I don't think this exists in payware or freeware.

PAD's 146-100 is looking good

Perhaps the 146 is a tricky model to make, most payware companies want to create the in-depth systems in aircraft which could be complicated to make?

Payware folk will release stuff that appeals to the sort of person who 'buys on impulse', not anoraks like us, who inhabit FS forums.

A P-51 or Spitfire will always sell to these people (and probably a 320 or 737, because that took them on holiday), alas, an Avro Ashton never took anyone or holiday, or helped win a war. To have one of those, you will need a freeware developer with imagination and one who is not worried about accuracy, as I doubt much in the way of info is available. Ito San springs to mind!

The 146 is not more or less difficult to make than anything else

If the 146 was a US built alrliner and had an extensive military career it would be more attractive......simply because there would have been so many more in real life.

If you look at the freeware portfolio of this site and the Pond you will see that most of these models would never exist as payware.

Someone posted a pic of Derek's Dove on one of the main sites and the first poster asked what it was followed by many who didn't know about it

I've read many say they've not seen a Viscount before. .....There are not a lot of people looking for payware types of these.

This creates a very special market

Because, as Trev says, types like this appeal to anoraks, they are difficult to source the info....the Superfreighter was murder..........and yet the models have to be of a high standard of accuracy simply because you are building for people who know the difference.

Many don't know the difference between a Boeing 737-300 and a 700 and many other just don't care..........but if we put the wrong mark of gun-site in a fighter the only option is

I know a place where you can get hold on some very decent DC-8's, and for a price everyone can afford too.

Moreover why should JustFlight develop a Comet then??

And as PMDG's new Jetstream shows, even payware customers might be seduced by something else if it's well made.
No reason to develop just another A320... I still think they just don't care what's on the market already...

It's the old Matchfix syndrome; back in the day when plastic was king EVERY kit manufacturer would release a Spitfire, a Bf 109, some flavour of Phantom, an F-16 .... well, you get the idea. It's what the pocket money/impulse buyer/Granny at Christmas market bought, so that is what they released; every now and then one of the mainstream manufacturers would be a little more adventorous, which usually ended in tears - Frog often stepped outside the mainstream, and went under as a result, and Matchbox nearly ended up the same way but were bought out (which at least saved the moulds).

Realistically none of your original list are realistic commercial prospects, but thankfully there are some good freeware alternatives - I still can't work out why AH are making their Comet, as I don't think that is terribly viable as an impulse buy (but there was that appalling VC-10 a few years back, and people did buy htat ).
