Multi screen set up in FSX hints and tips please
Hi guys,
I am running windows 7 and FSX, I have 4 monitors. At the moment I have 4 monitors, each plugged into a different out put from one of two Nvidea GeForce 9800GTX+ cards, and with each monitor running a Virtual Cockpit view with 1 looking left , 2 looking ahead, and 3 to the right. 4 is used for instrumentation. I use full screen mode and open a new window for each monitor. This works quite well and as long as I avoid high def airports etc I can average around 20 FPS which is quite adiquate for my brit props at around 10 to 20 thousand.
1). Is there another (Better?) alternative to this somewhat clumsey solution. ?
2). Is there a way in which I can save whatever solution I adopt as default. It is a little time consuming to set everything up from scratch every time I "Fly"
Many thanks...
TH.

Hi Tim
The honest answer is I really don't know. I'd have thought having 4 monitors plugged directly to your 2 cards was already the most elegant solution and certainly beats the old method of needing multiple pc's to handle the different views. VC's being what they are.. part of the model leaves no option to 'undock' so my guess is that you'll have to setup each monitor as you've described. Different if you were using a 2D panel but I can't see any other way to do what you want to do with a VC other than how you're doing it. I may of course be completely wrong
I'll move this down into the 'Virtual Spanner' too

Many thanks Dave. Just wondered...always nice to know that you have what appears to be a decent solution already ... Unless of course anybody knows otherwise.....

Hi Tim

I hope I am wrong tbh as a manual setup each time you open the box must be a bind. I'd not have the will to do it more than a couple of times (that's about all I managed with WideVIEW in FS8)

Have you looked at 'TripleHead2Go'?

May be a tad expensive but it will split a single video output onto three monitors. Once set up apparently your view of choice is automatically split across the three monitors. You could then use your fourth monitor for pop-up panels etc.

I couldn't for the life of me remember what that gizmo was called Larry
Might be worth a look Tim though I'm still not sure it will do what you need. Clever but not cheap

Yes....but it is neither obvious nor intuitive!!timholyoake wrote:Is there a way in which I can save whatever solution I adopt as default. It is a little time consuming to set everything up from scratch every time I "Fly"

OK, couldn't resist giving the pedantic answer to the question "is there a way?"
If the question was "what is the way?"
1. Make sure your Primary monitor is the same monitor that shows the FSX menus
2. Make sure your FSX Screen resolutions each match your Windows Screen resolutions
3. Make sure you are NOT in Full Screen Mode.
4. Undock drag and re-size your windows to fill your 4 monitors
5. Save your Flight and check the "Default Flight" box.
6. Now change to Full Screen Mode.
7. Exit and restart FSX
