scenery.cfg error problem

Post by DarrenL »

Like a fool I bought one of those 3 games for £10 deals in Game, the 3rd one to make up the offer was the Abacus (under the First Class Simulations title) Supreme Airliner Collection. Mainly because it had an A380 on there.

As the Italian Captain in 'Allo 'Allo said "Whada mistaka to maka"

So I uninstalled this collection, unfortunately I now get greeted with the following message each time I start FSX.

Now when I click OK FSX loads up normally and I have no problems. But does anyone know how I could get rid of it (without installing FSX and reinstalling, I have it set up how I like it and to find out all my installs and go through it all again will take all day).

Now, firstly it says there's an error in the scenery.cfg relating to AREA.128, there is no AREA.128 it only goes up to AREA.123 and I cannot find a scenery\AB_Airbus\SCENERY folder so neither of the quoted items actually exists. Ok that might be the error so what is trying to find them other than scenery.cfg (this is the scenery.cfg in the main FSX folder, or is there another?)

Hi Darren..

I guess what you could do is reload that collection again but before you uninstall it, check the scenery library for any scenery it might have installed then.. delete it from the scenery page. Try starting FSX again and if you don't get an error, go ahead and uninstall the software. As far as I'm aware, there should only be one active scenery.cfg file but FSX may have made another somewhere. The best way to find out is to do a search from windows :)
Also.. have a look at the scenery.bak file to check what's lurking in there.

Not an easy one this if your scenery only goes to 123 and it reports an error in 128 *-)

EDIT.. just a thought but there may be another folder in Documents and Settings/User/Application Data/Microsoft/FSX. In fact, I've just looked and there is ;)

Right clear head now and no distractions :)

Thanks for the ideas.

I have found another scenery.cfg in c:/Program Data/Microsoft/FSX this had Area.128 in it. And despite the Supreme Airliner Collection having all models of Airbus in it, it is annoying that the error would have to be directly related the A380 (details were in the other Scenery file) which was the only reason I bought it.

All fixed :)

PS. Anyone want the Supreme Airliner Collection DVD, one careful owner. You can hardly see the dent where I threw it against the wall. I can put it through the garden shredder and pop the dust into an envelope, 2nd class mail will be with the lucky recipient within 14 days. Bet you can't wait.

Ah.. Mr De Walt. Not many win an argument against him

I don't recognise the /Program Data/ folder mate so what OS are you using? I guess it's not WinXP SP3 *-)

Glad you found the little tinker anyway ;)
