Track IR

Post by Nigel H-J »

Could not for the life of me decide whether to resurect my post in Virtual Spanner or just post 'ere!! :dunno:

Just to thank all of you who gave your time in advising me for Track IR, after giving much thought I decided to take Daves' advice and buy locally as should anything go wrong at least I would have a UK drive and not an international one to sort out any problems!!

Finally took the plunge and bought Track IR 4 from PC Simulations Bristol, yes there is a Track IR5 but this one was cheaper as it has been taken over by Track IR 5. This unfortunately is my very last purchase for FS there will not even be any upgrades for the computer or replacement as I have other things to see to so just wanted one more final add-on to keep me going for as long as the computer holds out.

Still getting to grips with it i.e. settings but overall it is really great, well, I think so....Only problem I have had was when landing and starting to flare for touchdown, my chair has castors and at the critical point I jiffled and the seat went backwards......and I very nearly shot out of the cockpit backwards!!! :-O One point to remember when using Track IR...don't have a chair that moves!! :worried:

Once again, many thanks for all your help and advices.

Regards
Nigel.

Nigel, I never fly without it...however, I do have a button on my throttle to enable/disable it as required. When on the approach to landing I find it easier to keep lined up with the distant runway with Track IR turned off. Otherwise, your perspective of the runway is constantly altering with every small head movement.

Also I often disable it once settled down in the cruise on a long flight, autopilot on etc. I'm more concerned with the nav radios at that time, and again its easier to alter frequencies without your view of them changing.

Doing circuits and bumps in something like Rick's Chipmunk ? Track IR is indispensable. The way you can intuitively keep the runway in sight when turning downwind, base leg etc is terrific. Have fun !
