Some help from Mr Booker please

Post by DispatchDragon »

Dave

Lars Fors is busy redoing the instrument panels for the Alphasim Valiant -- I know Brooklands has (or had) a Valiant Cockpit -- heres the question dead center on the Captains glare Shield is an instrument - directly above the A/H -- it looks like some sort of drift meter (We thought Doppler) Can you enlighten us as to what it is?

Thank you Rick
That would imply its some sort of IFF instrument then I guess.

As I said Lars is doing the Panel and Degsy is doing a new FDE based on Pilots Notes so coupled with the Aeromusica Comet 2 sounds it will be a serviceable model again I hope.

Hi Leif

I have a feeling it's to do with the Tanker config.

but not 100% sure as no mention of it in details of pilots notes.

Rick

we couldnt find anything in the notes either but then again the manual Dave Jerram supplies is for a B1 not a tanker so its quite possible

It's either a passive or active radar warner. I'll do some homework and come back.

Hi Leif..

Sri mate.. been out all day. I'll have a look in the FM and see if I can find something for you ;)

EDIT..
Leif.. it's listed as item 10 on Fig.B.. Rear Warning Indicator. Does that say enough for you??

It was an active system (it tranmitted a radar pulse) called Red Steer, a derivative of the early EE Lightning radar, also known as ARI-5919.

The display was a CRT with eliptical returns to show pursuit aircraft. Also fitted to Victor and Valiant, details still classified even today!

Looks like the AEO had the main indicator with the captain's display showing the relative bearing to the threat aircraft
