HS748 FSX

Post by computerman3 »

I am new to this aircraft for fsx although I crewed on the real thing..my problem is that I'm darned if I can do a cold start on hs748 FSX and any rpm readings etc, has anyone else had this problem and does anyone know of a fix. I would really appreciate this as I would like to fly it correctly from the start.
Many thanks.

Hi computerman3 and welcome :)

Unfortunately, I don't run our 748 in FSX so am about as much use as a not very useful thing  Hopefully, one of our FSXers will be with you some time soon ;)

Hi Computerman, I'll take her up later tonight in FSX and see if I can find the problem. I don't remember having one before though. Which Opperating System are you using?

This has been covered before here ( a couple of times iirc) so if you look through the forum or use the search, you'll find more info.

It is a well known problem in FSX - Rick has said he may, perhaps, possibly, just might update it if he can ever find the time

However, I found that one way is to do the start-up procedure as per the manual/checklist and then switch to the 2D cockpit panel and then back to the VC. At some stage in there, the engines usually burst to life (think its when you switch to 2D, but could be wrong).

This doesn't always work - especially on 'hot' starts.

PS - a little tip, use your de/anti-icing on this fantastic aircraft - I have neglected on the odd occasion over the Cairngorms and have come down a lot faster than I went up!.

Ah! yes, that explains it, I only really use the 2D panel. Only use the VC once I'm up in the air for a nosy round ;)

Many thanks everyone for your import..will try the 2D thing and report back. Yes I know about the de icing thing from flying the real 748 but it
is a trap for flight simmers, myself included..Once again thanks very much for the replies and also for the welcome to your forum.. from a gratefull New Zealander..By the way I love this 748, very realistic and as for the disticntive sound, well enough said, brilliant !!

Hi there,
Yes it starts fine in 2D but I have found then after you back to Virtual you can then hot start from there. I don't know if anyone else found that as well.
Thanks again everyone for your advise, it's a really great aircraft to sim fly, it takes me back 20 years.

Yes, switching to the 2d view and then back to the virtual cockpit activates the dials, after which I follow the manual start-up -- but, if my dim distant memory is correct, the Ctrl+E autostart should also work. Either way, I make sure the ground supply (righthand overhead panel) is switched on.
