Comet and Trident sounds in FSX

Post by Fortiesman »

Hello

I fly Mr Maltby's Comet4b and Trident 3 in VC in FSX. I rarely fly other planes because they don't give me half the enjoyment these two planes do.I consider them the best planes in the whole of FSX, because I can fly almost real with all switches etc working . I need only my joystick and my mouse becomes the Captain's right hand working all controls . How nearer to real can you get than that?

The only problem I'm having is the sounds . They don't seem synched with the throttle. They sound loud when idling and then when throttling up ( e.g take off ) they go very quiet.

My sound system seems OK when using the default 737 as a check- so what can I do to get them right.
I notice in the sound folder for each plane there is a cfg file . Anything I can do here? Or anywhere

TIA

I don't think I have that problem, but you could check your panel.cfg for this edit you need to do to change an FS9 folder structure to FSX. It "might" be the problem, it might not be either way it's something to check :)

Section
[Vcockpit01]
gauge33=dsd_xml_sound3!dsd_xml_sound3, 2,2,5,5,.\Aircraft\DMFS Shared Files\DH106 Comet 4 Panel VC\DM_COMET_sound.ini

Change to:
gauge33=dsd_xml_sound3!dsd_xml_sound3, 2,2,5,5,.\SimObjects\airplanes\DMFS Shared Files\DH106 Comet 4 Panel VC\DM_COMET_sound.ini

(depending on where your DMFS Shared Files is located)

Same thing with the Trident.

Thanks for that Darren, but I have checked what you said and find that my entry at Gauge 32 ( no 33 ) is as you say I should change it to.
So, that is not the problem.

.So if anyone has any further ideas I'd be grateful. Thanks again Darren for your suggestion.

Hi Fortiesman

I seem to have a similar problem in FSX.
If I start FSX with the Ground Gripper (Trident) loaded, then the engine noise is very loud (with throttle set to 'idle'). If i then advance the throttle and then retard it, the engine noise dies away to 'idle'. Switching views, or advancing the throttle results in the engine noise reverting to it's 'loud' setting as at staring FSX.
Not sure of the cause of this yet.
The '.CFG' file that you mention, simply directs FSX to look in 'DMFS Shared Files' folder within 'Simobjects, Airplanes' for the sound files.
I haven't yet tried the same routine in FS9, but will let you know of any further information.

Hoping we can get this sorted soon.

Regards

Kevin

Back in the day, I think you had to change the sound quality slider in FS9 back to medium (or whatever the midway point was called) but FSX introduced its own funnies with some sounds recorded for FS9. I can't remember for sure but I "think" I'm using the aeromusica sound set on the Trident / 1-11 / VC10 and I don't think I get the same problems. I'll test tomorrow night and report back :cpu:

Thanks Ben

I've just tried and found the same problem with the One-Eleven in FSX.

There are extra parameters that can be specified for the sound in FSX. Sound placement, inside and outside cones, headings, pitch, volumes and angles. These are not there in FS2004 sound.cfg files.
I'm guessing that the default values FSX uses when these extra parameters are not specified are the cause of the weird sound effects.

I don't know, but there's probably a fairly simple workaround by adding some generic parameters into sound.cfg to make FS2004 models sound right.
Surely someone must have worked it out by now. :dunno:
Whenever I've looked at this in the FSX SDK I start losing the will to live after a few minutes. Perhaps no one has survived for long enough.

Just has the opportunity to check mine and I'm using the Aeromusica sounds, which is why I don't have the problems.

Give them a go, available at Brtisim search under Aeromusica.

Thanks guys

I think DM has hit the nail on the head, with regards to the 3D element of sounds within FSX. A good example of this, is the returrn to 'full throttle sound' when switching between views.
Thanks to DarrenL, I've now downloaded the Aeromusica files, which I was previously unaware of (despite some of them being available since 2006  ) and found these to work fine. They're not quite up to DM's sound levels, but I can sleep easier, knowing that there is a reduced risk to 'damage to hearing, hi-fi equipment & speakers, property, family & friends, pets, fruit & veg, garden hoses, weapons of mass destruction or anything else either' ;) .

Hello Gents

I have found a solution with which I am content. What I have done is delete some wav files from the planes' sound folders in the DMFS shared files folder in Simobjects/aircraft folder.

In the Comet sound folder I deleted the following Wav files
Avon- Full_high; IDLE; Lowblast; Full inside; and Full.

In the Trident sound folder I deleted the same files
Spey- Full_high; IDLE; Lowblast; Full inside; and Full.

This left in each corresponding Comet ( Avon ) and Trident ( Spey ) sound folder , these files.

COMB; REV ; Screech inside; cruise inside; Rev inside; High screech; screech; speed; stall.

By settings your preferences within the FSX sound options I was able to get a very good sound for both planes.

Hope this helps. Of course, if you delete a sound and would prefer to have it back you can always restore it from the recyclebin ( or use a backup file you made first )

cheers

FM
