BAC One Eleven Wing Views in FSX?

Post by Highlander_821 »

I just got Dave Maltby's BAC 1-11 installed and flying well. I had to edit a couple of files to get the cockpit sounds working. The only anomaly I seem to have is I'm not sure about the wing views. The little simicon tells me the views are on, but when I look right and left using the numeric keypad, I just see the cockpit views, no wings. I am running FSX Acceleration.

This is a cool little plane. I really like it, almost as much as I like the Trident. It is of course similar to a DC-9 in looks. It flies quite a bit like the 727 from Captains Sim. I just have the-500 model installed right now. I like the BCAL and the Ryannair paints the best.

Too much fun!

No wingviews in FSX. This is solely a FS9 thing. Views has been replaced with "Cameradefinitions", thus urging modellers to use the separated exterior and interior model ability in FSX.

Cheers Dan ;)

I couldn't recall having seen wing views in FSX but that said, I've never looked at em in FS9 either even though I know they exist

I had seen the 2007 thread that DaveB posted. That's how I knew to try the number pad keys.

So someone could just concoct a camera view section to create a wing-view that would be accessed by pressing the 'S' key in FSX, I imagine.

Oh well, I'm going to go fly it some more. I've been flying it in the States mostly, several trips between Chicago and St Louis.

No it doesn't work like that .... in order to make use of "wingviews" in FSX you must have an interior model ...

Cameradefinitions in FSX are 3D , where as Wingviews in FS9 are 2D...

Wingviews are FS9 only as I just mentioned above.....

The 1-11 model has wings built into the Virtual Cockpit.
If you can see the VC in FSX, then the wings are there too, as they are part of the 3D interior model.
You should be able to see them there out the side window.
That wing view icon simply makes the wing parts visible or not (I was concerned about possible frame rate hit).

All FSX did was to remove the strange numeric keypad method of looking at them from the positions laid out in panel.cfg.
They expect Camera definitions to be set up in aircraft.cfg instead.
If you look at the default FSX Airbus aircraft.cfg, you may be able to copy some of the [CameraDefinition.xx] sections and modify them to suit the 1-11. But it's hardly set out in laymans terms.
Why do you need to specify a guid to look out the window? :dunno:  I'm not sure if you need a guid generator to guarantee getting a unique one.

I don't know if the FSX style camera definitions work with FS2004 models though.
Maybe this is the issue that Dan is remembering. It's not a 2D / 3D thing, we had basic 3D effects back in FS9 too you know, Oh yes!
Dan is right that FSX doesn't have 2D "cockpit views", but my wing views were always 3D.

You should be able to get a good deal at Specsavers sometime early in the new year :worried:

I'm in the VC, but I don't see wings. It isn't a big deal, just eye candy.
