Comet Approach to KaiTak

Post by Anders Nielsen »

Hi,

I have no idea if DanAir had services to HonKong or the far east for that matter. But I really like this livery. So when I gave it a trip from Tokyo-Honkong, I trained some approached to the legendary RWY 13, with the 47 degree right turn just before touch down.

Me & SHMBO were only talking about 2 hours ago over a lovely Chinese & 2  bottles of wine about how we would love to do another trip to Honkers, sadly if it comes true it won't be into Kai Tak :|

Geoff

Using Jim Vile's AFD file I managed to get an AI 747 to do the chequerboard approach

I remember Dan Air doing some round-the-world charter flights in the late 70s. My girlfriend at the time was a hostie at Gatwick and I was very jealous as the crew and aircraft stayed with the passengers for the whole trip. But I'm pretty certain they used a 707.

I don't think I've tried to land a Comet at Kai Tak and it sounds like a bit of a challenge as I generally do an instrument approach and disengage the autopilot just before the turn. I think I'll need a few overshoots before I get the Comet in safely

If you guys really enjoy Kai Tak and have got some of your christmas money left over, I can highly recommend the Fly Tampa scenery (FS9 and FSX). I posted this a few weeks back of the Captain Sim 707 in FSX.

And there's a FS9 video here that I made a long while ago which is still OK: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=76OADiD9IhM

EDIT: Oh yes, I nearly forgot that I set up all that 70s AI in FS9 as well. All these aircraft, including the ANZ 742 are AI. They flew the curved approach better than me!

I don't know of any long range Dan Air COmets flights either *-)

The 707's could and did go anywhere :)

A bit predictable, I know! As if I'd let a Kai Tak thread go without trawling through my archives!
