The old and the new... ish

Post by TSR2 »

Call me sentimental, but it had to be done, The first is Frasers latest V6 Viscount Panelled and the last is my favourite BA livery on my favourite Boeing (Yes I succumbed)

I was never a huge fan of RT.. still don't particularly like it on the '10 but it does look good on the Viscount and 757. Looks good on Ben's real favorite Boeing too.. the 737

That's a fair point Dave, it didn't really suit the VC10, but it couldn't really compete with the BOAC liveries. :)

I liked RT generally but apart from the VC 10 I found it didn't fit the Vanguard too well either, but the general similarity of the nose shape of the two types probably help the common unease the livery sits.

The One-Eleven looked good as it was never really happy in BEA livery *-)

Nice shots Ben

I've always had a soft spot for the 757 too.

Never been a great fan of RT on anything, seemed a step backwards from the classic BEA and BOAC liveries, and all the nice divisionalised variations. Remember seeing G-AWZK at the Heathrow maintenance base from a passing bus, probably about 15 years ago, and the FJ livery didn't look out of place in the least, like it had never been away.

I'm determined to get you the final Viscount packs in the next fortnight as I'm on holiday; they've not been stagnant, just a lot to pull together and tweak. ;)

cheers

Fraser

Yup.. I'd go with that. The 3 Vanguards that made it into RT looked wrong.. not bad in FJ but cracking in RS  Never thought the 1-11 looked good in RS and it could wear almost anything and get away with it

Lovely screenies, Ben. They look like photographs. I think the 757 looks really good in RT but I agree with the others that nothing improved on the last BEA and BOAC liveries.

Absurdly, we really liked Landor when we were flying in it. Perhaps it was just the relief of leaving RT and the ghastly deckchair uniforms behind but Landor was very much a design of the times and doesn't now stand up to retrospective scrutiny. It still looks better than RT if not as colourful :hide:

(retrospective scrutiny? Where the f*** did that come from? )

BEA decided in the late 1950's the livery had to change to match the new styles of aircraft and without doubt the Vanguard along with the Comet was in mind when RS was designed.

Ian I'm not surprised you liked Landor when flying in is as you couldn't see it from the inside so were in a very privileged position ;)
