Here is Skagway selected on the left and showing the latest Decoded METAR and the TAF below.

This one is screen 01 scrolled down to below the TAF where you can see the Headwind, Tailwind and Crosswind components for all the runways and for the US airports you can click on the "Airport details on AirNav .com" and ...


...you get this. On UK airports you just get the MAGVAR


Here I have expanded the Airport photo.

It is a very good app and you can set it to update automatically.

I'm now a happy Ipad user ( I bet Middleton's laughing his head off up there ) and that looks excellent. Peter, to what extent do you use it in association with flight simming ?

With FS9 it is very good with REAL weather loaded. But I use it for runway info in MS FLIGHT...Useful when you have started a mission before checking the runways at destination (you can't look at the MAP in FLIGHT, once you have started a mission and I like to adjust the last part of my route for a straight in approach to the runway nearest to into wind). Sadly you can't use real weather in FLIGHT but I normally use "Low and threatening" for my weather and that gives a lot of crosswinds. I always know the wind as I approach and as long as I know the runway I can adjust things on the last part of my route for a straight-in.

My wife has even found it useful on her boat (based on the Thames) to set the ship's barometer using the Heathrow altimeter setting!

Like Mrs Peter McLelland , I use METARS to set my barometer if I think it's inaccurate. I take the EGGP QNH ( elev 85 feet ) and subtract 3mb ( oh alright hPa )to cater for my 185 feet elevation . It's amazing how quickly domestic aneroids go out of trim
