727s At London City Airport?
Shalom and greetings all my pals,
Did 727-100s ever operate from London City airport???? I know that 727-100s were capable of handling 5,000 ft runways.
What was first passenger airline jet ever used for London City airport?
Thanks for any answer any of you might offer!
Regards,
Aharon

Not a hope, I'm afraid. Its in a very built up area and only 'quiet jets' are permitted. I also suspect the stands would be too small to accommodate the 133ft length...but don't shoot me down if I'm wrong on that! The B721 was also never equiped for the steep glideslope, when the airport opened in the early 1980's very few European airlines were operating the aircraft then.
An interesting thought though!

First passenger jet to use LCY was the BAe 146

I think at the time it was the only jet allowed. The runways was shorter then too.

Dunno about you but when I see a 146, I always associate it with LCY. I know they went all over the place but it's just one of those things.. like Brize Norton and VC10's

I think if it wasn't for LCY the 146 would be very rare now.
LCY has given it a new lease of life.
There would still be some around but fleets like Cityjet and Swiss would probably not exist, not in such numbers.

I had a look for 727 service at London City.
. Couldn't find any.
However, I did get a little info that BA offers a Airbus 318 from London City to JFK.?.
And the 727 bus will take you in to London for about 40 squids.

British Airways Ltd is separate company operation 32? seat Airbus A.318 on luxury flight to JFK. BAW001/002, the old Concorde flights. Fuel stop needed Westbound at least.
Air Canada uses A.319 to LHR, but Canada is a bit closer.
